What do you do at polyspektiv?
I do a variety of things at Polyspektiv, serving as a contact person for different workshops and simulation games, writing and conducting them. My main focus is on German politics at the federal and state levels. Methodologically, I do a bit of everything, from simulation games to Escape Rooms, and I help out wherever I’m needed.
How did you join polyspektiv?
I’ve known Heidi and Frank for a long time. Since 2013, I worked as a freelancer at the German Bundestag, giving lectures, running simulation games, and conducting tours. Through these activities, I met Heidi and Frank and often collaborated with them as a freelancer until I was hired at Polyspektiv in 2021.
What do you enjoy most about working at polyspektiv?
I especially enjoy the implementation—working with young people and people in general. I love conducting various projects, whether it’s a simulation game, a workshop, or lectures. On the other hand, I also enjoy sitting at home or in the office, focusing on creating something that will later be used. It’s the mix that makes it enjoyable!
Why are you involved in political education?
I’ve been politically active since my youth. In Saxony, we had and still have significant political challenges, so I positioned myself against neo-Nazis early on. As a result, politics and political education have always been important to me. My work in the Bundestag deepened my involvement, and I learned a lot.
How did you start working in the Bundestag?
I had been doing city tours in Berlin for some time and wanted to engage in something more political. With my knowledge of English, French, and Spanish, I decided to join the visitor service of the Bundestag. At that time, I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy conveying political content. Over time, I expanded my role, leading tours not only in the Bundestag but also at the Chancellery and participating in events at the Bundesrat.
How is working at polyspektiv different from freelancing?
Both have their pros and cons. As a freelancer, I could take vacations whenever I wanted and be my own boss, but it also came with higher risks, which became very evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, I’m part of a team and have job security. However, I had to learn to work in a team and deal with being dependent on others and less flexible. I really enjoy the teamwork.
What do you do when you’re not working for polyspektiv?
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family, especially my son, and in our garden. We have an allotment garden where I’ve discovered my green thumb. From March to November, I enjoy digging, planting, harvesting, and being outside with friends. I also enjoy sewing, mainly for children, although I rarely have time for it nowadays
