Invited by the liberal „Friedrich Naumann Foundation“, a delegation of Jordanian local politicians, activists and experts explored the German system of „kommunale Selbstverwaltung“ (local self-governance). After visiting different institutions, the last part of their programme was a simulation game. The purpose was to apply the lessons learned and to get a personal experience of local politics and administration.
Their task: To overcome the difficult situation of the village „Sachsendorf“ close to Leipzig, which has overaged population and a lack of economic activity – resulting in a difficult financial situation of the municipality. Divided into 3 different local parties, they tried to develop their visions and strategies for the future. Afterwards the council of the municipality defined a common strategy and took first steps of implementation. (PR-strategy, application for Regional Funds of the EU, adaption of land use planning).
